It’s no news that journaling is a very effective tool for self-discovery and change.  Keep coming back as we add more exercises to keep your journaling fresh.  Our hope is to continue to give you some fun and effective tools to help you to treat yourself better. I recommend you get a journal that is just yours, but if you don’t have one, a pad of paper will do just as well.

In this exercise you’ll find:

    ·  Journaling just to release anxiety
    ·  Questions to identify patterns
    ·  Questions to identify beliefs

Even people that don’t journal much enjoy this interesting exercise.  It’s called non-dominant handwriting.  In a nutshell here’s what it is: 

Write out questions and answers on paper with pen or pencil.  By writing the question with your dominant hand and answering with your non-dominant hand, you access a different part of the brain than we do when we react to things. By receiving information from this new source we can discover much about ourselves.

Write a question with your dominant hand, the one you use to sign your name with. (See questions below for ideas) Immediately after you write the question, place the pencil in your non-dominant hand. Just let it rest in your hand for a moment.  Then slowly let yourself begin to write, even if what comes to mind doesn’t make much sense to you.  Leave the pencil in your non-dominate hand, and just allow yourself to meditate and allow your thoughts to come out on the paper.  You can do this about a specific subject, or simply as an exercise with meditation. 

When you’ve got something bothering you, write a related question.  Allow your non-dominant hand to answer it.  See if it brings you to another question.  If you feel prompted to go in a certain direction with your writing, keep on letting it flow.  Allow yourself sufficient time for this exercise. Write whatever comes to you, no matter how silly it might seem.
